Quick Conversions and Convenient Field Wiring with 1492 I/O Wiring Systems

10/2/2026

Traditional point-to-point I/O wiring requires technicians to prepare, label, terminate, and verify numerous individual wires. Allen-Bradley® Bulletin 1492 I/O Wiring Systems from Rockwell Automation® simplify this work by using interface modules (IFMs) and pre-wired cables to connect controllers with field devices. A single IFM and cable can take the place of 20 to 40 individual control wires. This approach can significantly reduce wiring time between in-panel controllers and field devices.

The expanded Bulletin 1492 portfolio can connect to all 25 Allen-Bradley® 5069 Compact I/O modules, including digital, analog, safety, relay, and high-speed counter applications. Seventeen new cable variants connect 5069 I/O to new or existing IFMs, with feed-through, fused, LED, relay, and thermocouple IFM attachments. By building on existing footprints and field wiring, these systems can shorten design and installation time, reduce wiring errors, and simplify migrations from SLC™ 500 to CompactLogix® 5380 or 5069 Compact I/O. They also support conversions from 1771 PLC-5® systems to 1756 ControlLogix® I/O.

Cable Options for New Designs and Legacy Migrations:

  • Shorten design, engineering, and wiring times
  • Minimize conversion and wiring errors
  • Conserve space inside the control panel
  • Support a variety of applications
  • Choose from 17 digital and analog cable variants
  • Connect 5069 I/O to new or existing interface modules
  • Select pre-wired, IFM-ready, or I/O-ready cable configurations
  • Build on existing footprints and field wiring to reduce redesign and rewiring

Bulletin 1492 solutions can also help manufacturers transition from legacy Allen-Bradley control platforms. Cable and interface options may allow existing field wiring to be incorporated into an updated control architecture, reducing the amount of rewiring required during a migration. Compatibility should be confirmed for the specific controller, I/O module, and interface module configuration.

Questions or Requests

Selecting the right combination of I/O modules, cables, and interface modules depends on your controller architecture and field-device requirements. The Reynolds Company can help you evaluate Bulletin 1492 options for new control panels, machine designs, and legacy-system migrations.
